The word ‘No’ triggers several layers of anxiety.

Often because we're socialized to act in the best interest of the group, not ourselves.

But a life of peace and productivity requires us to reduce our Yeses.

Here are 5 tips to draw your boundaries with grace:

1️⃣ Infuse Encouragement in Your Response

Sprinkle positivity by complimenting their initiative.

It leaves a sweet taste when you make them feel good about their request and also keeps your ties strong.

2️⃣ Lean On To a “Social Account”

Reference another's advice to explain your behavior.

E.g “My coach forbade me from taking on too much so I can’t add one more task to my plate right now. ”

(It’s like when my hubby tells me the neighbor made the suggestion because he thinks I listen to the neighbor more easily than to him)

3️⃣ Minimize the Urge to Reciprocate with Quick Exits

Keep conversations and email strings short and polite.

Think of it like ducking out of a party early. You were there, but you didn't overstay.

4️⃣ Play the Task Matchmaker

No time to squeeze in another task? No problem!

Be a connector and suggest someone else who might be up for it.

5️⃣ Stand Your Ground

If you show you might fold, they'll keep pushing!

Make sure you stay firm and confident by leaving no question about where you stand.

And a friendly reminder before you go...

By drawing boundaries you're not shutting doors,

But choosing which ones to open wide.
